Opportunity Description: Wheeler NWR is located along the beautiful Tennessee River between Decatur and Huntsville, Alabama. Volunteers needed to perform seasonal indoor and outdoor work. Indoor work includes: assisting in visitor center, performing clerical and administrative duties, and working with computers and other technical equipment. Outdoor work includes: assisting in landscape, trail, and facility maintenance, conducting biological surveys and studies such as bird banding counts, leading tours and providing information and interpretation to the visiting public, assisting in habitat modification projects, such as developing freshwater impoundments and reforestation, and photographing a variety of natural and cultural resources.

RV couple needed to meet and greet the visiting public, provide information, and operate the small bookstore. Approx. 24 hours per week. Full camper hookup provided in secure location close to all amenities. Three or six month terms available.

Opportunity Description: Park Host- Volunteer Couple wanted to provide visitor assistance at Holy Ground Battlefield Park, on weekends and holidays from April to September (Labor Day). Responsibilities would include greeting visitors; making routine patrols in the park; checking for minor violations; reporting maintenance problems; explaining the day use fee to boaters and swimmers, securing the park at closing. A Contract Park Attendant position is also available at this park. A campsite with power, water and sewage will be provided. A camper trailer or motor home is required for the position. Opportunity Description: Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is seeking up to two full time volunteers to staff the park visitor center during the spring special event and school group season. Volunteers will operate Visitor Center from 8:30 to 4:30 (40 hours per week with two days off per week). During slow periods in the Visitor Center, volunteer should expect to spend time scanning historic documents into .PDF format or entering data into word processing or spreadsheet programs. Basic computer knowledge is important. Park provides shared housing in fully furnished, three bedroom house, 100 yards from the park Visitor Center. Volunteers must have personal transportation off duty. There is no public transporation available to/from the park. It is not feasible to live at the park without a car or similar transporation. Park provides 40 hours of training and orientation and uniform shirts and name tags. No other financial support is available. Expect to work eight weeks from early March through April.
Opportunity Description: Volunteer will asist with the care and maintenance of the Old Stone House Garden. Duties include weeding, planting, nuturing plants, raking, digging, pulling and pruning and trees located on the property under the supervision of site gardener. |
