Opportunity Description: 
Location: Volunteer position is located in Russellville AR. The population of Russellville is approximately 21,000. Lake Dardanelle has nearly 40,000 acres of boating and fishing waters and rimmed by choice picnic and camping areas, it is the ideal leisure-time destination. Two miles wide in places, it reaches 50 miles upstream to the Ozark-Jeta Taylor Lock and Dam and has 315 miles of shoreline. Russellville is located near the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests.

Environmental Stewardship Office Clerk - The Russellville Project Office is seeking a volunteer to perform minimal clerical duties. Some duties include filing miscellaneous documents, typing shoreline correspondence letters, answering phones, greeting walk-in visitors/customers, typing, and computer data entry. Work schedule would include 24 hours/week during any of which may occur Monday-Friday between 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. For your important volunteer contribution, the Corps will furnish a campsite in the park for a self-contained trailer or motor home with electrical (50 amp) and water. Occupancy of this site is limited to volunteers’ camping unit and personal vehicles only. Volunteer position may be year round.

Opportunity Description: 
CAMPGROUND HOST at Shady Lake Recreation Area. Duties include: Providing friendly service and recreational information to campers, hikers, anglers and day-use visitors. Take recreational data by walking the 4 camping loops twice a day; some litter pick-up when needed. Explain the campground regulations and the reasons for them. Hosts are provided with a camping space, including full hook-ups, for their RV. A washer and dryer are provided for use of Host and campground interpreter who lives on the grounds.

Shady Lake Recreation Area lies on the extreme southern edge of the Ouachita National Forest, adjacent to the Caney Creek Wilderness Area, 3 miles North of Hwy 246 on Forest Road 38. The campground is open from March 1st until December 1st. Hosts generally stay from one to two months.

There are 66 camping units, 21 with water and electricity. There is a Playground, Amphitheater, Interpretive Trail, Hiking, Group Picnic area, and a 25 acre lake with a grassy beach.

There are three miles of narrow (not steep) dirt road into campground. No cell or phone service is available inside the campground.

Opportunity Description: 
VISITOR INFORMATION STATION (VIS) ATTENDANT – Mena, Arkansas Greet visitors at VIS, located on the East end of the Talimena National Scenic Byway, providing friendly service and recreational information to visitors to the Ouachita National Forest. Duties include giving out both verbal and written recreation information, selling interpretive materials, keeping simple records, and some light trash pickup.

The Visitor Information Station is open from the first of March until the middle of November. Hours are 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily. Out of Town Volunteer Hosts usually stay for 1 to 2 months and work three to four days a week. Several days of the week volunteers come from the community. The station is located one mile north of downtown Mena Arkansas on Arkansas State Highway 88. An RV space with full hookups, picnic table, Bar-B-Q, and fire ring is provided.

Opportunity Description: 
Winter Park Host/Volunteer-  Work period: September 01, 2010 to April, 30, 2011. Multiple volunteers needed for the winter recreation season. Volunteers will work a minimum of 20 hours per week on various assignments in exchange for free camping privileges. Winter volunteer duties include fee booth operation, park surveillance, providing information on the Corps to visiting public, trail maintenance, updating bulletin boards, building bird nesting boxes, shoreline and park cleanup, and light maintenance activities. Volunteers will be provided a campsite with water, electric and possible sewer hook-ups. Sewer hook-ups are not guaranteed. Volunteers will live on-site and be available to answer questions, provide directions and other assistance. Volunteers must be bonded to collect fees. Bonding costs will be paid by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Opportunity Description: 
Park Host-Volunteers needed for the summer recreation season. Iron Mountain Campground. One (1) couple, 21 years or older with a safe, licensed, insured camping unit and vehicle. Volunteers will staff registration booths for a minimum of 6 hours per day. Volunteer park host couples will be working a rotating 3 day on/ 4 day off schedule. Work period: May 5, 2010 – September 2, 2010. The duties of the volunteer in this area include gate attendance on a set schedule. Park Hosts will collect campground fees utilizing the NRRS system. General computer knowledge will be required. Other duties include park surveillance, park patrol, reporting any problems to park rangers. Volunteers must be bonded to collect fees. Bonding costs will be paid by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Volunteers will live on-site and be available to answer questions, provide directions and other assistance. A free full-service (water, sewer, electric) campsite will be provided. Volunteers must be able to work the entire work period. The volunteers will work a minimum of 18 hours per week. Good communication skills are necessary. Volunteer hosts do not enforce regulations; however, they are expected to be observant. Volunteers must wear the volunteer uniform while performing volunteer duties. Applicants should be physically capable of performing job. Volunteers must have a friendly attitude with the public and portray a positive image of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Training will be provided. DeGray Lake Cleaning Volunteer -Volunteers needed to perform cleaning at Degray Lake from April 8, 2010 through September 30, 2010. This position is for a volunteer campground host. The position is located in the Albert Pike Recreation Area on the Caddo Ranger District which is on the Ouachita National Forest. This position can very in length from five weeks to three months. Most host positions will need two volunteers for the position.The campground host will have several duties. Some of which are greeting visitors, provide information and explaining regulations to the public, cooperating with adjacent private campground owners as needed for public safety, participate in interpretative programs, perform minor cleanup and maintenance, and most important of all be an example to other campers and have a friendly attitude when visiting with campers. Other duties may be assigned as needed.All hosts will be provided with free camping. Some amenities will be provided such as water, sewer, and electricity. A telephone will be provided for emergency use.
