Opportunity Description: Summer Park Host/Volunteer - Summer Volunteers work period is April 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011. Multiple volunteers needed for summer recreation season. Volunteers will work a minimum of 20 hours per week on various assignments in exchange for free camping. Summer volunteer duties include: park surveillance, providing information on the Corps to visiting public, trail maintenance, updating bulletin boards, building bird nesting boxes, shoreline and park cleanup, and light maintenance activities. Volunteers will be provided a campsite with water and electric hookups. Sewer hookups are not guaranteed. Volunteers will live on-site and be available to answer questions, provide directions, and other assistance. Volunteers must provide a safe, licensed, and insured camping unit and vehicle. Volunteer must be bonded to collect fees. Bonding cost will be paid by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Skills needed: The ability to perform certain tasks that may involve bending, lifting, or other laborious movement such as construction or trail maintenance, general computer knowledge, a positive and helpful attitude towards visitors, and the aptitude to understand and follow instructions. Opportunity Description: Campground Host- Volunteers needed from April 1, 2011 through October 30, 2011, Greet visitors; provide information and assistance to visitors about the area, self deposit guidelines and self deposit vaults, surveillance of facilities and equipment, notification of proper authorities in case of emergency. Some light maintenance, clean restrooms, pickup litter, clean grills and fire rings, clean camping sites. In exchange for their services, park hosts are provided an RV site with water, sewage, 50 amp electric service. Host site must be kept clean and orderly while site is occupied. Opportunity Description: Mountain Home Project Office: Receptionist / Office Clerk Volunteer: We are in need of two year around positions as a receptionist / office clerk, breaking the year into summer / winter time periods. I would like the two people to work 24 hours per week each to cover the office and have some overlap. The two volunteer positions would assist the duty ranger in daily activities such as answering the phone, collecting fees for annual day passes, copying documents, and giving visitor assistance about the Mountain Home area which includes Bull Shoals & Norfork Lakes. Volunteers must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have the ability to file documents, and complete other duties as assigned. The desired employees must have good personal hygiene and appearance. Volunteer Polo shirts and name tags will be provided. A pleasant personality and the ability to deal with diverse visitors and too work independently are helpful. A personal background check and the ability to be bonded are required. The flexible work schedule is 24 hours per week. A free campsite, which includes electric, water, (sewer if available) is offered in lieu of payment for work.

Opportunity Description: Hydro Electric Power Plant Mechanical/Electrical/General Maintenance Volunteer: The Mountain Home Project Office has two volunteer positions for persons to assist the Power Plant Maintenance Operation Staff. Daily activities may include painting, maintaining tool rooms, inventorying stock & supplies, perform buildings and grounds maintenance. Volunteers may assist with mechanical and electrical repairs; perform minor administrative tasks (filling out requisitions and answering phones). Volunteers should have some knowledge of minor maintenance activities, good safety habits and the ability to use Microsoft Excel. Volunteers must be able to climb stairs and lift 25 pounds with ease. A pleasant personality, the ability to work with the maintenance operation staff or independently perform task with proper instructions is advantageous. A background check is required and will be preformed. The work schedule is 24 hours per week for each position. Norfork Power Plant is located in Salesville, AR. Bull Shoals Power Plant is located in Lakeview, AR. A free campsite, which includes electric, water, and sewer (if available) is offered in lieu of payment for work.

Opportunity Description: Volunteers In Parks Job Description Job Title: Campground Host – Various campgrounds Job Description: Host(s) welcome visitors to the campground and assist with campground registration. The host provides information on the park, interpretive programs and activities, campground regulations, and answers questions of a general nature about the region. The host also provides information to the ranger staff regarding maintenance and repair needs at the campground. The hosts may assist with minor maintenance projects such as painting, picnic table repair, and litter pick-up. The host also communicates visitor safety concerns to the ranger staff. Skills/Traits Needed: Campground hosts must be friendly and able to converse with a wide variety of park visitors. They should be in good physical condition and able to walk the campground loops twice a day (a 1 mile distance). Benefits: A campsite, equipped with water, and electrical hook-ups, is provided at no cost. The campsite will accommodate various sized trailers (depending on campground location within park). To assist with daily expenses, a stipend may be available depending on budget. The park will provide all uniform items. Hosts will participate in seasonal training, including CPR, basic first aid, and information sessions on park resources and area attractions. Opportunity Description: Location Description Rich in cultural and natural resources, this park was established in 1832 as the first federal reserve. Luxurious old bathhouses line historical Bathhouse Row and offer a glimpse of life in the early 1900s. The surrounding park and the Ouachita National Forest have hiking trails, campgrounds and lakes. Hot Springs, a city with a population around 36,000, has all the amenities of a major city. Position Description
Opportunity Description: CAMPGROUND HOST at Shady Lake Recreation Area. Duties include: Providing friendly service and recreational information to campers, hikers, anglers and day-use visitors. Take recreational data by walking the 4 camping loops twice a day; some litter pick-up when needed. Explain the campground regulations and the reasons for them. Hosts are provided with a camping space, including full hook-ups, for their RV. A washer and dryer are provided for use of Host and campground interpreter who lives on the grounds. Shady Lake Recreation Area lies on the extreme southern edge of the Ouachita National Forest, adjacent to the Caney Creek Wilderness Area, 3 miles North of Hwy 246 on Forest Road 38. The campground is open from March 1st until December 1st. Hosts generally stay from one to two months. There are 66 camping units, 21 with water and electricity. There is a Playground, Amphitheater, Interpretive Trail, Hiking, Group Picnic area, and a 25 acre lake with a grassy beach. There are three miles of narrow (not steep) dirt road into campground. No cell or phone service is available inside the campground.
Opportunity Description: VISITOR INFORMATION STATION (VIS) ATTENDANT – Mena, Arkansas Greet visitors at VIS, located on the East end of the Talimena National Scenic Byway, providing friendly service and recreational information to visitors to the Ouachita National Forest. Duties include giving out both verbal and written recreation information, selling interpretive materials, keeping simple records, and some light trash pickup.
The Visitor Information Station is open from the first of March until the middle of November. Hours are 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily. Out of Town Volunteer Hosts usually stay for 1 to 2 months and work three to four days a week. Several days of the week volunteers come from the community. The station is located one mile north of downtown Mena Arkansas on Arkansas State Highway 88. An RV space with full hookups, picnic table, Bar-B-Q, and fire ring is provided. |
