Julian Alden Weir, a leading figure in American art and the development of American Impressionism, acquired the farm in 1882. After Weir, the artistic legacy was continued by his daughter, painter Dorothy Weir Young and her husband, sculptor Mahonri Young, followed by New England painters Sperry and Doris Andrews. Today, the 60-acre farm, which includes the Weir House, Weir and Young Studios, barns, gardens, and Weir Pond, is one of the nation’s finest remaining landscapes of American art. In 2009, over 1500 visitors participated in the Take Part in Art program and became part of the unique and enduring artistic tradition of Weir Farm National Historic Site.

Opportunity Description: Park Host – Needed to perform cleaning of public recreation and restroom facilities at Black Rock Lake, Northfield Brook Lake, and Thomaston Dam, in Thomaston CT. Park Host(s) will be asked to volunteer approximately 20 hours per week, June through Mid October in exchange for full hook up camp site. Schedule will allow for two days off during the week and some flexibility. The US Army Corps of Engineers will provide equipment supplies and vehicle. Valid Drivers License required. Opportunity Description: Park Host Needed - We are looking for two energetic and fun couples to staff a fee collection booth from approximately mid May to mid September 2010. Duties include collecting fees, answering visitor’s questions and being the first friendly face that our visitor meets. We are asking each couple to volunteer 20 hours of time during the weekday. The specific days will be negotiable, and can be consecutive or spaced apart. In return for 20 hours per week, we will provide a maintained site which includes electricity, water, sewage, trash and internet.
