Opportunity Description: Position includes answering visitor questions about Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge and the Refuge System, selling federal duck stamps and entrance passes, and selling items from the Friends of Bombay Hook Refuge Store.Volunteers needed March-May and September-December. Time slots available in approximately four-hour blocks all days of the week.
Opportunity Description: Environmental Educators lead wildlife management tours of the refuge and conduct interpretive trail walks focusing on importance of wetlands, forests, and wildlife that live there. They also conduct outdoor classroom activities that include forest studies and wetland studies in freshwater, brackish, and salt-water marshes and meadows. Field guides, dip nets, trowels, jars and pans are provided for the group to use. Tours are provided for school groups, scout groups, and senior groups.Positions are ongoing, volunteers are called when a group is scheduled to see if they are available. Most programs are March-May and September-November.
Opportunity Description: Assist with trail maintenance, native plant garden, buildings, fish tank and projects including highway clean-up and maintenance of bird boxes. Trail maintenance includes cutting back vegetation and erosion prevention.Positions are ongoing. Volunteers needed Monday-Friday 8am-4pm and weekends 9am-5pm.Most opportunities are during March-May and September-December.Training is provided. |
