Opportunity Description: 
Location: Green Lake National Fish Hatchery, Ellsworth, Maine URL: (Click on Green Lake NFH) Position availability: June 15 to September 30, 2010 (negotiable)

The 130-acre Green Lake National Fish Hatchery facility is within close proximity to many picturesque coastal communities, a half-hour drive to Acadia National Park and two and a half hours from the Canadian Maritime Provinces (Canadian travel requires a passport or passport card).

Position includes assisting the facility Maintenance Foreman with grounds maintenance using power equipment, and may require temporary assignments at Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery via government vehicle transportation. The completion of a Safe Driver on-line course is required.

Hours: 24 hours per week, 4 days per week, 10 am to 4 pm, although hours and days of work can be modified and adjusted dependent upon weather conditions. Housing: Complete RV hookup provided (power, water, sewer) and free laundry on site. Uniform provided: Two Volunteer shirts, jacket, cap.

The 135-acre Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery facility offers two lakefront beaches with easy and moderate hiking on the property. CBNFH is within close proximity to many picturesque coastal communities, a one-hour drive to Acadia National Park and three hours from the Canadian Maritime Provinces (Canadian travel requires a passport or passport card).

Position includes serving as Craig Brook NFH visitor center host, providing initial information and small group tours interpreting the facility’s fish culturing operations in behalf of endangered river-specific Atlantic salmon (sp. Salmo salar). Knowledge of diadromous species and watershed dynamics are desirable but not required; training is provided on-site by the facility’s Education/Outreach coordinator. Gift shop sales included, although infrequent. Summer visitation 40-100 visitors per day.

Hours: 24 hours per week, 4 days per week, 10 am to 4 pm. Weekend duty availability is desirable. Complete RV hookup provided (power, water, sewer) and free laundry on site. Uniform provided: Two Volunteer shirts, jacket, cap.
