Opportunity Description: Campground Host: Buffalo Gap Campground is located 7 miles west of Medora, ND, the most popular summer tourist destination within the state, and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Paved access from Interstate 94 will lead you to the campground where camping sites are arranged in two loops that are open and grassy with green ash and American elm for shade. There are 37 campsites, full service comfort stations (restrooms) and vault toilets, coin-operated showers, a picnic shelter that can accommodate 75 people, and drinking water from a potable water pump that has several spigots located throughout the campground. It is a fee campground, popular throughout the summer and fall months. The campground serves as a Trailhead for the Buffalo Gap Trail, which is part of the world famous Maah Daah Hey Trail System. The Host site is equipped with hook-ups for water, electricity, and sewage. The campground can accommodate large R.V.’s, trailers, and tenters. No horses or other pack stock are allowed within this campground. The Host's responsibilities include general clean up and minor maintenance. Volunteer furnishes own self-contained trailer or camper. Water, sewer, radio, tools, and supplies are provided. As a Host, you’ll earn a stipend amounting to $12.50 per day worked per volunteer. Hosts will be provided with a vest, hat, and/or shirt with an identification patch, and a Host sign for your site. As a Campground Host you will typically be expected to greet visitors, provide information, answer questions about recreation and trails, refer campers to points of interest, explain the fee system, campground rules and regulations and help campers feel at home. This position requires moderate duty maintenance, cleanup of facilities, record keeping, dedication and concern for public recreation opportunities. Host(s) are expected to be personable and neat in appearance. We ask that you are on-site five days per week, especially during weekends and heavy use holidays. Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. We are interested in volunteers who can work at least Memorial Day through Labor Day, preferably longer. We like to have Hosts in the campgrounds from mid-May through mid-September. Applicants must be at least 18 yrs of age by the reporting date.
Opportunity Description: The Corps of Engineers, Garrison Project in North Dakota is looking to fill volunteer this position for May 1, 2010 through September 2010. This Host position is for Wolf Creek Campground, which is located on the quiet shores of Lake Sakakawea. Wolf Creek is a primitive campground with 101 sites; however, the Campground Host is provided a site with full hook ups. Hosts should be outgoing, friendly, and enjoy working with people. We rely on our hosts to help us with visitor assistance, maintaining rules, and garbage pickup. Both 2.5 and 5 month positions are available. (Update 08/28/2009)

This host position is for Downstream Campground, which is a Class A campground and is located in a cottonwood forest along the beautiful Missouri River. Downstream Campground has 101 modern campsites and 17 primitive campsites. Hosts are provided a site with full hook-ups. Opportunity Description: Campground Host- Volunteer Campground Hosts position available, May 1, 2010 through September 30, 2010, at Corps of Engineer’s, Beaver Creek Campground on Lake Oahe, 16 miles West of Linton, North Dakota. Hosts are requested to stay a minimum of two weeks. Duties include visitor assistance such as supplying information and sport equipment to campers and day users, answering camper’s questions, calling 911 or the Emmons County Sheriff’s Office as needed. Safety hazards or issues need to be addressed immediately and reported to the Park Manager or Park Ranger. Daily lists of occupied sites with vehicle license plate numbers are recorded. Monitor the campgrounds water system checking for leaks, reading pressure gauges and checking the chlorinator system. Volunteers will do a light cleaning of the comfort station on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week if needed or call the Park Manager if an additional contract cleaning is needed. Volunteers will not be paid for any services, mileage, incidentals, etc. The volunteer hosts will stay on a full hookup site which includes a paved site partially shaded with trees, 30/50 amp electric service, water, sewage and close access to a public phone and possibly a phone line to the campsite. Due to shifting earth and drought, water system failure is not uncommon. Troubleshooting and repairs will be made as soon as the manpower or funds are available and the system is determined to be economically feasible to repair.(Updated 08/28/2009)

There are 35 campsites, vault toilets, a picnic shelter that can accommodate 30 people, and drinking water from a potable water pump. It is a fee campground, popular throughout the summer and fall months. The campground serves as the North Trailhead for the world famous Maah Daah Hey Trail. The Host site is equipped with hook-ups for electricity, and sewage. The campground can accommodate large R.V.’s, trailers, and tenters.
