Opportunity Description: The Corps of Engineers, Garrison Project in North Dakota is looking to fill volunteer this position for May 1, 2011 through September 2011. This Host position is for Wolf Creek Campground, which is located on the quiet shores of Lake Sakakawea. Wolf Creek is a primitive campground with 101 sites; however, the Campground Host is provided a site with full hook ups. Hosts should be outgoing, friendly, and enjoy working with people. We rely on our hosts to help us with visitor assistance, maintaining rules, and garbage pickup. Both 2.5 and 5 month positions are available. Opportunity Description: We are looking to fill a volunteer Campground Host position for May 1, 2011 through September 2011. This host position is for Downstream Campground, which is a Class A campground and is located in a cottonwood forest along the beautiful Missouri River. Downstream Campground has 101 modern campsites and 17 primitive campsites. Hosts are provided a site with full hook-ups. We rely on our Hosts to help us with visitor assistance, to maintain rules, and to put on fun programs for our campers to enjoy. Two-month positions are available. Opportunity Description: Campground Host- Volunteer Campground Hosts position available, May 1, 2011 through September 30, 2011, at Corps of Engineer’s, Beaver Creek Campground on Lake Oahe, 16 miles West of Linton, North Dakota. Hosts are requested to stay a minimum of two weeks. Duties include visitor assistance such as supplying information and sport equipment to campers and day users, answering camper’s questions, calling 911 or the Emmons County Sheriff’s Office as needed. Safety hazards or issues need to be addressed immediately and reported to the Park Manager or Park Ranger. Daily lists of occupied sites with vehicle license plate numbers are recorded. Monitor the campgrounds water system checking for leaks, reading pressure gauges and checking the chlorinator system. Volunteers will do a light cleaning of the comfort station on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week if needed or call the Park Manager if an additional contract cleaning is needed. Volunteers will not be paid for any services, mileage, incidentals, etc. The volunteer hosts will stay on a full hookup site which includes a paved site partially shaded with trees, 30/50 amp electric service, water, sewage and close access to a public phone and possibly a phone line to the campsite. Due to shifting earth and drought, water system failure is not uncommon. Opportunity Description: Position: Serve as the full-time live-in volunteer campground host for the primitive 76-site Cottonwood Campground located on the Little Missouri River in the parks South Unit. Host assists park staff in the safe and appropriate operation of the campground. Duties: Makes contact with campground visitors assisting them in finding and securing a campsite and completing proper campsite registration, and explaining appropriate campground use and regulations. Frequently completes rounds of the campground determining campsite availability, ensuring compliance with campground rules and regulations, and resolving minor disputes. Prepares daily and monthly occupancy statistic records, maintains time sheets, and fills out lost and found reports. Commitment Required: This position is available from May 15th to September 10th, 2011. A 4-month commitment is needed to assist park rangers with the high visitor-use season. This time period includes training beginning in mid-May and continues through the week of Labor Day. Volunteers typically work 40-plus hour per week. Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required as these are our busiest time periods. Specific scheduling will be discussed prior to accepting this volunteer position. Housing: The Campground Host is required to reside in the Cottonwood Campground. The volunteer is required to provide their own self-contained camper, trailer, or recreational vehicle for accommodation. A campsite with water, sewer, and electrical hookups will be provided. Work Environment and Physical Demands: The Cottonwood Campground is located inside the park, amongst a wooded setting along the Little Missouri River, 5.5-road-miles north of park headquarters and the town of Medora. Summers are warm with temperatures in the 80s and 90s and reaching the 100s a few days some years. Evenings can be cool with temperatures down in the 40s in late spring and early fall. Afternoon thunderstorms and periods of sustained winds are common. Annual precipitation averages 15-inches. Duties are primarily performed in the out of doors and may occur in inclement weather. Though the campground is in a wooded locale, there will be exposure to the sun throughout the season. The work will include periods of standing and walking. Skills Desired: Needs the proper skills to accomplish the duties described. Strong personal communication skills. Desire, willingness, and enthusiasm in providing information to park visitors. Ability to handle upset and/or irate visitors in a calm, professional, and competent manner. Ability to work independently and be a self-starter. Ability to live happily in a semi-remote area with few amenities. Uniform: Volunteers will be provided with uniform shirts, hat, and name bar. Camping sites are arranged in three loops, two loops open to campers with horses, and one loop reserved for campers without horses. This campground is located on a grass and sage covered steppe, with a scenic backdrop of badlands formations, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and the Little Missouri River flowing nearby. There are 35 campsites, vault toilets, a picnic shelter that can accommodate 30 people, and drinking water from a potable water pump. It is a fee campground, popular throughout the summer and fall months. The campground serves as the North Trailhead for the world famous Maah Daah Hey Trail. The Host site is equipped with hook-ups for electricity, and sewage. The campground can accommodate large R.V.’s, trailers, and tenters. Horse and pack stock amenities include: hitching rails and an accessible stock ramp. The Host responsibilities include general clean up and minor maintenance. Volunteer furnishes own self-contained trailer or camper. Water, sewer, radio, tools, and supplies are provided. As a Host, you’ll earn a stipend amounting to $12.50 per day worked per volunteer. Hosts will be provided with a vest, hat, and/or shirt with an identification patch, and a Host sign for your site. As a Campground Host you will typically be expected to greet visitors, provide information, answer questions about recreation and trails, refer campers to points of interest, explain the fee system, campground rules and regulations and help campers feel at home. This position requires moderate duty maintenance, cleanup of facilities, record keeping, dedication and concern for public recreation opportunities. Host(s) are expected to be personable and neat in appearance. We ask that you are on-site five days per week, especially during weekends and heavy use holidays. Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. We are interested in volunteers who can work at least Memorial Day through Labor Day, preferably longer. Opportunity Description: Campground Host: Sather Dam Campground is located 26 miles southwest of Watford City or 22 miles northeast of Sidney MT. on Highway 68. Paved access will lead you to the campground which consists of four loops with 18 camping sites. There is a loop with picnic tables , fire grates, two vault toilets, and drinking water from a potable water pump on the north end of the area. There are no hookups, although there are spaces for RV's and primitive camping areas on the east and west sides of the dam. It is a fee campground. Horses and pack stock are not allowed at this campground. There is a nonmotorized surfaced trail that runs adjacent to the west side of the lake. A handicap accessible floating fishing pier and a boat ramp are available. Electric motors only are allowed on the dam, which is currently stocked with rainbow trout, bass, & bluegill. The Host's responsibilities include general clean up and minor maintenance. Volunteer furnishes own self-contained trailer or camper. Water, sewer, radio, tools, and supplies are provided.
