Opportunity Description: Butterfly Monitor - Volunteers needed April through October to identify and record butterfly species on a weekly basis. Routes normally take one to two hours to walk each week, depending on which route is chosen. However, volunteers can also serve as substitutes or volunteer on a bi-weekly or monthly basis to give primary monitors a break. Couples and a home school family have volunteered in the past. This position would also be good for a team of high school students desiring a project in natural sciences that also provides data for the park. Opportunity Description: Maintenance Hosts – Two host teams or couples needed from May 1, 2011 to September 20, 2011. Perform light duty maintenance such as painting, staining, light carpentry work, campsite renovation and repair, landscaping, minor plumbing, repair or removal of safety hazards and litter pick-up. May also install or repair signs, boundary fences, trails, or other projects as needed. Some duties will be performed alone or with the Maintenance or Ranger staff. All required supplies and tools will be provided by the Corps of Engineers. A friendly and professional attitude desired. Volunteer teams are required to provide 20 hours per week service in exchange for a free campsite with electric hookup. Applicants must be capable of performing tasks required. Opportunity Description: Resource Management-Project work to take place March through end of November. Project will entail doing work to develop the 5 acre pond for wildlife habitat. Construction of: a small observation/photo blind, small ADA fishing pier, bat box nesting structure, wood duck boxes, sunning structure for turtles. Repair of existing small foot bridge and trail repair.

Opportunity Description: Boundary Blitzers - Strong nature lover's needed in October, November, and December (weather permitting) to help mark and clear the park's boundary, weather permitting. Suitable for adults and possibly senior high students. Enjoy the outdoors in some of the more remote areas of the park. Even if you can't make these dates, call to help on other days.

Opportunity Description: Volunteer opportunities- arise throughout the year as an on going opportunity at Deer Creek. This would be a great way for groups or individuals to participate in a great volunteer opportunity in the wonderful outdoors. Some of the past groups that have participated in these opportunities have been, the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, FFA, senior groups, school groups and family groups. Some of the activates that are available could be, but not limited to, building bluebird boxes, butterfly boxes, bat houses, flower beds, shoreline cleanup, building bridges, kiosks, benches for eagle scout projects, fish monitoring, tree planting and work in the visitor center and/or office.
