Opportunity Description: Chickasaw National Recreation Area is nestled in south-central Oklahoma, 75 miles south of Oklahoma City and 140 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. The 9,931-acre recreation area contains Travertine Nature Center, fresh water and mineral springs, six campgrounds with electric and water hookups and comfort stations with showers, 2,350-acre Lake of the Arbuckles, 67-acre Veterans Lake, over 20 miles of hiking trails, and a collection of historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures. The recreation area preserves natural and cultural resources and provides recreation for a million and half visitors each year. Visitor activities center on water recreation in the lakes and streams and include boating, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, hiking, nature study, and hunting.The summers are hot and humid. Temperatures above 100 degrees occur, and humidity frequently exceeds 50 percent. Winters are mild. Thunderstorms are common in April through July. Chickasaw National Recreation Area has several campground host positions in two campgrounds in the Arbuckle District and two campgrounds in the Platt Historic District available for the 2010 season. The campground hosts are the eyes and ears in the campgrounds. The hosts greet visitors and answer questions about the recreation area and campgrounds in an informed and courteous manner, check for payment on nightly stays, inform visitors of campground rules and regulations, respond to minor emergency situations, conduct light grounds maintenance, grooming of fire pits, and restock restroom supplies. Campground hosts must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance and be physically able to perform minor maintenance tasks. Start dates will vary depending on campground, but are generally in late Spring. End dates will also vary from early Fall to Winter 2010. Camp sites will full hook-ups, training, and uniforms will be provided.

Opportunity Description: Chickasaw National Recreation Area is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy meeting and interacting with park visitors to work at the Travertine Nature Center, Visitor Information Station, Junior Ranger Station, Buckhorn Ranger Station, rove and conduct programs in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Multiple opportunities are available with a variety of schedules. Duties include staffing the Travertine Nature Center/Visitor Information Station/Buckhorn Ranger Station desks, giving directions, providing information to park visitors, answering general questions, issuing boat ramp permits, selling and issuing federal park passes, and assisting staff with special projects. There are also opportunities to lead interpretive walks/tours. The Travertine Nature Center is open daily from 9am -5:30pm Memorial Day-Labor Day, and 9am-4:30pm the remainder of the year. The Visitor Information Station is located at the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce and is open 9am-3:30pm, staff permitting. The other sites are staffed on an as-needed basis.
The park will provide training and uniforms to all visitor services/interpretation volunteers. The park may have one RV site available, with full hookups, to an interpretation volunteer or couple in 2010.
Opportunity Description: Summer Park Host, Spencer Creek Park- Volunteers needed from April 1, 2010 - September 30, 2010. Supplements duties of contract gate attendant, monitors park activities, gives out information, and assists campers/ park visitors. Communicate effectively with gate attendant on issues in the park. May involve light cleanup or maintenance. Monitors self-deposit fee system on gate attendant's day off (Tuesday). Opens and closes park entrance gate to maintain park hours (Tuesday). Park Host will be present to open second lock on honor system fee vault and to observe gate attendant opening and counting Self Deposit Fee Envelopes (Wednesday). Park Host will not handle money. Opportunity Description: Campground Host-Volunteers with good communication skills that enjoy meeting people are needed from Apr. 1 - Oct. 31, 2010. The Camp hosts will meet and greet park visitors, provide information, open and close gates, check campers in, assist campers, provide a watchful eye, and perform some light maintenance. Schedule will be min 20 hours per week and include weekends. In exchange for their services, park hosts will be provided a free campsite with water, sewer, and electric (30 amp) hookups. Located near Bartlesville, OK in the High Plains of Oklahoma's Green Country, Copan Lake is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and take in local attractions of Bartlesville and Tulsa, OK too. Redbud Bay campground has 12 electric sites. Volunteers will meet and greet park visitors, provide information, camper check-in and check-out, campground cleanup, assistance to campers, provide a watchful eye, and some light maintenance.
