Opportunity Description: Park Maintenance- Blackhawk Park is looking for a long term (2-5 months) park maintenance volunteer(s) to perform light duty maintenance in the park from May to September 2011. We are looking for energetic applicants that would like to work in a campground setting located on the Mississippi River main channel 30 miles south of La Crosse, WI. Work can include painting, minor repairs and assisting other maintenance staff. Located between the urban Twin Cities and the growing western Wisconsin landscape, it us used by thousands of visitors every year, each looking for something different: recreation, fishing, camping, relaxation, beauty, togetherness.
Opportunity Description: STILLWATER ISLANDS VOLUNTEERS: The National Park Service is seeking community members and river users to participate in ongoing work to help ensure that the scenic beauty and delicate environment of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway area known as Stillwater Islands.
Volunteers selected for the Stillwater Islands volunteer program will accomplish a wide variety duties working independently and alongside park staff, including educating the public about regulations and rules for recreating in the area; restoring and maintaining native plant populations to the islands and shorelines; assisting with trash clean up in the area; increasing river users knowledge of the Riverway; and a variety of other opportunities for stewards of this area.
In addition to being provided with orientation to the National Park Service Volunteer in Parks (VIP) program, volunteers will also receive ongoing safety training and be encouraged to participate in the long term development and growth of the Stillwater Islands Volunteer program in future years.

Opportunity Description: Supervisors have completed selections of volunteers for the 2010 summer season. New applications will be considered for the 2011 season. Volunteer would provide visitor information and services at one of the park’s visitor centers. Duties may include: operating an information desk; answering visitor questions; taking campground reservations and issuing camping and diving permits; opening and closing the building; operating AV equipment; providing park program and safety information; conducting over-the-counter sales; maintaining visitation records; designing and updating bulletin boards; accompanying cruise service tours; giving interpretive talks or conducting tours, and on occasion, assisting with basic custodial duties. Parkwide orientation and training would be provided. Couples applying for this position at Little Sand Bay mainland location may split with a maintenance position (one partner doing maintenance, and other partner working as interpretive guide.) RV sites and/or shared dormitory accommodations available. Minimum of 3 week commitment, and 8 hour work days.
