Opportunity Description: Bulltown Historic Area – Visitor Center Volunteer/Interpreter – Positions are available between May 15 and October 15 at Bulltown Historic Area Visitor Center (12 miles off Interstate 79, Exit 67). Greet and assist visitors upon their arrival. Provide visitors brochures, and explain interpretive displays and programs available to them. Answer phones and messages in a timely manner. Track visitation and compile monthly data. Operate videos and slide show in theater upon request. Keep brochure rack in lobby properly filled with supplied brochures. Provide programs such as campfire programs, historic area tours, living history demonstrations, and talks to visitors, campers, and local residents. Program topics include natural resources, safety, and cultural and natural history. Plant, water and weed flower beds around visitor center. Assist park rangers with other activities as needed. Other duties will include light cleaning duties in the visitor center, trash pickup in the parking lot and area adjacent to the visitor center, and limited security of the visitor center. Opportunity Description: Campground Host – mid-May through September – East Lynn Lake in East Lynn, West Virginia has available Campground Host positions which require the volunteer(s) to live in the recreation area and perform the duties to operate a campground or day use recreation area. It is our goal to provide a family oriented camping experience by personally greeting East Lynn Lake visitors in a friendly and courteous manner, and, to promote the safe, responsible use of project facilities and resources, while providing high quality customer service and information. The volunteer(s) will welcome visitors, and provide literature, brochures, and general information on facilities, fees, rules and regulations and the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS), Conduct periodic walk through/drive through of park to assure campers are on assigned sites according to records. The volunteer will monitor park activities and will contact a park ranger if a problem is observed; the host must have the ability to utilize radio equipment in a professional manner. Volunteers must be capable of physical work duties in an outdoor environment and will be needed to perform light maintenance duties which may include restroom cleanings; light carpentry work, painting, staining; grass mowing, trimming, and landscaping; litter pick up throughout the project and debris along the shoreline; maintain nature trails; and other light maintenance duties. Work shifts are generally 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and may include evening and/or nighttime hours, split shifts, and will almost always include weekends and holidays. Opportunity Description: Visitor Center Host - This volunteer is needed Memorial Day weekend through Labor day weekend. Volunteer will work weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. providing information and courtesy services to visitors at the Visitor Information Center and the Overlook Area for Tygart Dam. The visitor information center is a small facility with light to moderate visitation. Other duties will include: restocking brochures and tracking brochure use; light cleaning duties in the visitor center, trash pickup in the parking lot and overlook area adjacent to the visitor center; and limited security of the visitor center. Volunteer may be asked to assist with tours of the dam that are scheduled for Thursday during June, July and August. The Corps of Engineers does not operate a campground at Tygart Lake, so a free campsite will not be provided. Host will be bonded and will collect fees in the campground. Since the host is bonded, this will be a long-term assignment (from mid-May through the end of September). Host may also be responsible for posting reserved sites daily if it is decided to enter this campground in NRRS. Campground hosts do not enforce park regulations; however, they are the eyes and ears of the park rangers and assist rangers and visitors during emergencies. Riffle Run Campground is one of area’s most popular campgrounds, and the host provides a very valuable service. This campground is located 3 miles off Exit 79, Interstate 79. Burnsville Lake, Bulltown Day-Use Area is approximately 12 miles from Interstate 79, Exit 67. Volunteer will be provided with a campsite with full hookups (no telephone). The host will have two major duties: visitor assistance and facility maintenance. As an important part of the visitor assistance program, the volunteer will welcome visitors, and provide literature, brochures, and general information on facilities, fees, rules and regulations, etc. Monitor the boat launch ramp, informing users of the boat ramp launch fee. The volunteer will monitor park activities and will contact a park ranger if a problem is observed. Facility maintenance will include cleaning the restroom near Shelter 5, the grounds in the picnic area, and Shelters 5 and 6. Duties include insuring that supplies are kept stocked in the restroom. Other duties will include roadside litter pickup, cleaning the grills, emptying trash cans, and planting, watering, and maintaining flowerbeds. The host shall clean shelters by 9:00 a.m., shall clean the restroom by 10:00 a.m., and shall collect litter in the entire park area by 11:00 a.m. (daily). The playground and horseshoe pits shall be maintained, including leveling of the surface materials and inspecting the area for any hazards such as broken glass (weekly). Grills shall be maintained, including removal of all material and ashes within the grills/rings (weekly). Garbage shall be collected from trash receptacles and the liners shall be replaced as necessary (at least weekly). The “Reserved” signs shall be posted before 9:00 a.m. on days of reservations, and the signs shall be replaced at the end of the day (as needed). Volunteers will be provided with all required administrative supplies, a radio, cleaning supplies, and any other necessary tools.
