Opportunity Description: Trail Maintenance/Construction: Take pride and honor in helping to maintain your valuable forest trail system. The Adopt-A-Trail program is calling for your help. Volunteer individuals, families or groups can adopt a trail or section of trail and be responsible for the maintenance and cleanup of that particular trail. There are many, many trails available with a broad array of quality experience opportunities. Trails will be matched to adoptor's desires, experience and abilities. The Forest Service will provide training and direction as needed, and recognition for adopting the trail. The adoptor is rewarded with the feeling of having a good time, doing a good job, for a good cause. Make a difference!

Opportunity Description: Archeology/Heritage: Assist Forest Service archeologist conducting archeological site surveys; monitor sites, ruins, and historical remains; work with the public; or help in laboratory work, data entry, mapping, and other tasks. A good way to get experience in cultural resource management, data management and computer use, and back country mapping and hiking skills in the spectacular Four Corners region and Wasatch Plateau as well as contributing to the protection of fragile Anasazi and Fremont remains. Forest Service will provide housing, work transportation, and equipment, subsistence is negotiable.

Opportunity Description: Back Country Ranger: Volunteer needed for backcountry patrol in the proposed Red Mountain Wilderness area. Duties will include public contact with all types of trail users, backcountry campsite inventory, monitoring, and restoration, and some duties at developed recreation sites. An emphasis on teaching the public Leave-No-Trace camping techniques is critical to this position. The majority of work will be located in one sub-alpine basin with 12 lakes. Work schedule will be Friday-Monday. Nearby attractions include the popular Sawtooth and Frank Church Wilderness Areas and world class whitewater on the Payette River System. Daily subsistence, bunkhouse, and camping gear provided. Overnight camping is required.

Opportunity Description: Campground/Trailhead maintenance volunteer positions are available year-round. The duty station will be at the Burley office. No housing is available. Candidates must have a valid drivers license and be able to pass government driving tests for manual transmissions and 4x4 vehicles. Duties include driving to campsite/trailhead locations and cleaning toilets, hanging signs, and performing light maintenance duties. Duties are average in difficulty. In winter some snow shoveling may be necessary. Winter driving may hazardous at times. A stipend is not available in the off-season months (Nov-March). The Forest Service provides all necessary protective equipment including gloves, safety glasses, etc. This opportunity is most suitable for self-motivated adults who have a strong desire to be a part of public service. r4
Opportunity Description: Campground Host: Bull Trout Campground. Bull Trout Campground is located in a high elevation basin by Bull Trout and Martin Lakes. There are 38 sites with 4 equestrian campsites. Host duties at all sites will generally include providing information to visitors, bathroom cleaning, and litter pick-up. As a Campground Host, you will typically be expected to greet campers; give directions, answer questions, and hand out pamphlets if available; help campers feel at home; perform minor maintenance and inspect the campground; possibly clean and/or stock restrooms; keep some records; and occasionally fill out forms. A Host must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance. You may be required to be on-site five days per week, especially on weekends and heavy use holidays. A Host must generally be physically able to perform some raking, shoveling and sweeping. The most important job as a Campground Host is to provide an enjoyable camping experience for the public. The Host is the first and sometimes the only contact with campground users. Subsistence allowance, propane, sewage vault, and delivered water will be provided. Forest Service personnel will patrol this campground on a daily basis. Limited Services in Lowman and nearby Garden Valley. All services located in Boise, which is an approximately 1.5-hour drive from the Lowman area.

Opportunity Description: Wilderness Information Specialist and Campground Host: Wilderness Information Specialist and Campground Host: The Green River Lakes Campground & Trailhead are located 52 miles northwest of Pinedale on a scenic glacial lake directly bordering the Bridger Wilderness. This is a remote location with the last 25 miles unpaved. The Wilderness Information Specialist provides visitor information, checks Wilderness Visitor Permits, interprets rules and regulations, collects data on visitor use statistics and impacts, assists in Search & Rescue operations at the trailhead, and educates visitors about wilderness ethics and minimum impact camping techniques. The Campground Host maintains the 39-unit Green River Lakes Campground, the trailhead facilities, and dispersed sites located along the Green River. Duties include: posting reservation sites, providing visitor information, interpreting rules and regulations, collecting data on visitor use statistics and impacts, collecting visitor use fees, and performing routine cleaning and maintenance duties, including daily toilet cleaning. A friendly couple with outgoing personality and familiarity with backpacking and horse use are preferred. Forest Service will provide subsistence, uniform vests, and a RV trailer with flush toilet and potable water. No electricity provided. RVs are on a first come first serve basis.

The Salt Range looms to the west, the Wyoming Range, across the road, climbs up to the east. Campground vegetation is primarily conifers. The road is unpaved dirt, but well-maintained. Public contact and the care of the campsites, toilets, and trailhead area are expected. Special maintenance projects may also be assigned. Backup support is provided by the maintenance crew and fire prevention officer. With 12 sites, this campground is generally quiet. It has water. Sewer and electricity are not available. As a Campground Host, you will typically be expected to greet campers; give directions, answer questions, and hand out pamphlets if available; help campers feel at home; perform minor maintenance and inspect the campground; possibly clean and/or stock restrooms; keep some records; and occasionally fill out forms. A Host must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance. You may be required to be on-site five days per week, especially on weekends and heavy use holidays. A Host must generally be physically able to perform some raking, shoveling and sweeping. The most important job as a Campground Host is to provide an enjoyable camping experience for the public. The southern exposure opens out to willow flats, while the Gannett Hills rise up directly behind the campground to the north. Campground vegetation is primarily conifers. Public contact and the care of the campsites, toilets, and trailhead area are expected. Special maintenance projects may also be assigned. Backup support is provided by the maintenance crew and fire prevention officer. With 32 sites, this campground generally stays busy. Water must be pumped by hand. Sewer and electricity are not available. Subsistence may be provided. Volunteers furnish own trailer.
