Opportunity Description: Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area- Located 4 miles from downtown Cartersville, GA Volunteers Needed for the 2011 Summer Recreation Season for the period of 07 June – 07 September 2011: Two (2) couples, 21 years or older with a factory built, self contained camper trailer or motor home at least 18' long. No other persons can live with the volunteer couples during the volunteer period. Two pet limit per couple. Volunteer Park Host couples will be working a rotating four day on/four day off schedule. When Volunteer Park Hosts are on duty, they will be responsible for opening and closing park gate; park surveillance; park patrol; maintaining shelter reservation calendar; issuing horseshoes and volleyballs to shelter users during the volunteer period. Volunteer Park Host will not be reserving shelters or collecting shelter fees. On duty days from 07 June thru 06 September, Volunteer Park Host will open gate at 8 a.m. and close gate at 9 p.m. Volunteer Park Hosts will be required to post daily generation schedule; patrol park every three (3) hours to check for minor violations (pets off leash, parking on grass); and report vandalism or maintenance problems to Operations Project Management Office. If scheduled to work on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays, Volunteer Park Host will man air-conditioned/heated gatehouse from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for traffic control. Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area has 106 parking spaces, two group shelters, twelve individual picnic tables; playground; horseshoe pits and volleyball play areas; and a nature trail. Total round trip tour of the park is approximately .08 miles. A campsite is provided for each couple with 50 amp electricity, water, sewage, and a restricted-use telephone line; however, Park Host Volunteer must supply a physical telephone in their camping unit for communication with Allatoona Operations Project Management Office. Cooper’s Furnace Day Use Area is very flat and easy to walk or bike. An average of 22 hours or less of volunteer work per couple per week. Opportunity Description: Stamp Creek Ramp - Volunteer Host Couple Needed April 01 - September 30, 2011. Stamp Creek Ramp is located approximately 9 miles from downtown Cartersville, GA. (A Super Walmart is 6 miles from area). Stamp Creek Boat Ramp is a flat area that can be walked or a bicycle may be used. The area has a ramp with 41 boat launching spaces. Total round trip tour of ramp is .2 mile. One couple, 21 years year or older, with a factory built, self-contained, camper trailer, or motor home at least 28 feet long is needed during the period April 01 – September 30, 2011. Will accept volunteers for a minimum a three month increment (April 01 through June 30 or July 01 through September 30) or for the six month increment. No other persons can live with the volunteer couple during the volunteer period. A campsite (located in the ramp area) is provided with 50 amp electricity, water, sewage, and a telephone line for making local calls. Average 20 hours of volunteer work per week. There is a two (2) pet limit, however, vicious pets are not permitted.
Volunteer Park Hosts will work a 5 day on/2 day off schedule (Thursday thru Monday) with some flexibility on Thursdays and Mondays. Park Hosts will be responsible for, park surveillance, user fee compliance, and park patrols. Boat ramp gates are open seven days a week. Volunteer Park Host will patrol boat ramp every three (3) hours (between 9 a.m. and sunset) checking for fee compliance and issuing user fee envelopes (volunteers will not collect user fees), check for minor violations, such as pets off leash and parking on grass, report vandalism and maintenance problems to Project Management Office. Volunteers are needed to help with the large event with assisting in selling lemonade and peanuts at our cooperating assocation table. Opportunity Description: Fort Pulaski National Monument Job Title: Junior Ranger Program Volunteer Supervisor: Chief Ranger or Acting Chief Ranger or Volunteer Coordinator Location: Various locations including visitor center and fort Project Duration: Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall Hours Per Week: LVIP (local VIP) 2-6 hrs daily and/or weekends as VIP schedule allows; RVVIP (RV VIP) 2-8 hrs daily and/or weekends as scheduled Description of Duties: - Greet children as they enter the visitor center. - Describe the junior ranger program to the children and ask if they would like to participate. - Provide the child will age appropriate booklet and pencil. - Volunteer will create a supply box of various related items to encourage increase interaction with the park and children. Some of these items will be used in a display around the park. - Volunteer will add appropriate items to the supply box as felt needed. - Volunteer will maintain items in supply box. - Volunteer agrees to attend orientation and/or training sessions. - This position may be given as a project or detailed in conjunction with another volunteer position, described separately. - Volunteer will seek out a Ranger to sign the Junior Ranger Certificate. Evaluation: A random observation of overall engagement with children, professionalism, courteousness and attitude toward visitors and accuracy of answers will determine whether VIP achieved these tasks.
