The tasks include but not limited to grubbing, trimming, watering, planting new trees and established trees, litter pickup throughout the campground and small debris pickup on the shoreline. Mowing and upkeep of nature trails show nature films at the amphitheater. Cleaning and painting cooking grills, removing nails screws, strings and tape from campsite canopies. Opportunity Description: Chickasaw National Recreation Area is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy meeting and interacting with park visitors to work at the Travertine Nature Center, Visitor Information Station, Junior Ranger Station, Buckhorn Ranger Station, rove and conduct programs in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Multiple opportunities are available with a variety of schedules. Duties include staffing the Travertine Nature Center/Visitor Information Station/Buckhorn Ranger Station desks, giving directions, providing information to park visitors, answering general questions, issuing boat ramp permits, selling and issuing federal park passes, and assisting staff with special projects. There are also opportunities to lead interpretive walks/tours. The Travertine Nature Center is open daily from 9am -5:30pm Memorial Day-Labor Day, and 9am-4:30pm the remainder of the year. The Visitor Information Station is located at the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce and is open 9am-3:30pm, staff permitting. The other sites are staffed on an as-needed basis.
The park will provide training and uniforms to all visitor services/interpretation volunteers.
