Opportunity Description: The refuge is looking for resident volunteers interested in working outdoors, working with visitors in our visitor center and just helping out the staff wherever needed. Carpentry, trail maintenance, and visitor service skills a plus but not required. Resident volunteers must provide their own RV, be willing to volunteer 24 hours/week per couple (32 hours/week for single) and volunteer for a minimum of 3 months. Opportunity Description: The Santee National Wildlife Visitor Center is located off of Hwy 95 (exit 102) right on the banks of Lake Marion in Clarendon County, South Carolina. The visitor center has numerous displays of local wildlife including an osprey nest with its own viewing platform!! The refuge is looking for volunteers who are interested in working at the visitor center information desk – responsibilities include answering questions about the refuge, and disseminating refuge maps, literature, and other information about natural and cultural history. Volunteers should be outgoing and be willing to work with visitors. The preference is that volunteers commit to work one day a week. The Visitor Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Volunteers should be willing to work outdoors in the elements and should be able to walk and stand for extended periods.

Prepare teacher packets, program handouts and evaluation forms as needed. When assisting educator, use digital camera to take pictures during programs. Opportunity Description: Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, with headquarters located 20 miles north of Charleston, encompasses over 66,000 acres which include barrier islands, salt marshes, and maritime forest. Management objectives include managing habitat for migratory birds, managing threatened and endangered species, preserving maritime forest communities and, offering wildlife-dependent recreation and educational programs and activities. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available for resident volunteers. Availability, interests, and abilities of the volunteer will determine how the volunteer can contribute to the Refuge.
