Over 95% of these habitat areas are now gone due to development. Home to many endangered birds, fish and mammals this area needs your help to remain as a viable habitat area. An educational walking tour will be included. All are welcome even if you can’t stay to help us with the project. Activities to include invasive plant removal, native plant rescue, trail maintenance and litter removal. Help us make a difference for the wildlife that can only survive here and nowhere else. All tools and supplies are provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. East County Volunteers Wanted! Even if you don’t live in East County but you care about clean, trash free waterways we still need your help at Forester Creek in Santee. Forester Creek is a tributary of the San Diego River. After each rain storm trash and debris washes down the creek to the San Diego River and ultimately to the ocean. Please help us as we prevent trash from washing into the river and create a healthy habitat for the plants and animals that call Forester Creek home.
No experience necessary, all tools and supplies provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Participants are asked to wear sturdy clothing that can get a little dirty and also wear closed shoes. Hat and sunscreen are recommended. Groups and people of all ages are welcomed to help.

Bring plenty of water to drink and your own gloves if you have a favorite pair, otherwise, we’ll provide all the tools, plants and equipment including gloves. Trail Work - In and Around the Flamingo Area
FLAMINGO, Florida: On Saturday December 8, 2012, Everglades National Park is hosting a public volunteer event in the Flamingo district. Work will include trail maintenance and clearing viewpoints. Trimming the ever-growing vegetation and redefining paved areas are vital for the continued use of park facilities and will be the majority of Saturday’s work. Volunteers will utilize provided tools such loppers, saws and shovels.
Volunteers will meet at 9:00am in the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center parking lot. Be prepared for hot and humid weather. Participants are required to wear long-sleeved shirts, sneakers, and long pants to protect against exposure to sun, biting insects, poisonwood, and ivy. Please bring a lunch, refillable water bottle, hat, and sunglasses. Storms are common this time of year so be equipped for rain.
Participating volunteers will receive a free entry pass, enabling each volunteer to visit the Everglades again and share this unique National Park with their family and friends. All are invited. To volunteer, show up or RSVP with Kevin Bowles Mohr at (305) 242-7752
Directions: Address of Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center: 40001 SR 9336, Homestead, FL 33034
